Kathy Kutzer has been working in the helping profession since graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Recreation Therapy from Dalhousie University in 2007. Having grown up in the Rocky Mountains, Kathy pursued her passion of working in the outdoors and focused on providing services through the use of meaningful and intentional experiences with the purpose of eliciting reflection, insight and change.
Having the desire to offer more to her clients, Kathy went on to complete a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Calgary where she developed her skills as a Clinical Social Worker (2012). Kathy grew a foundation in family systems theory, neurobiology, human development and began her appreciation of post-modern theory. Since completing her Master’s degree Kathy moved to Vancouver Island where she has been deepening her clinical practice. Kathy is both a Registered Clinical Counsellor and Registered Social Worker in British Columbia (please see below for insurance and income tax information).
Kathy works from a place of collaboration, prioritizes the therapeutic relationship and is curious about her client's "preferred self". In her practice she uses a bio-psycho-social-spiritual lens with a family systems perspective. Kathy uses a variety of techniques such as narrative therapy, motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy, emotional processing, mindfulness and recreation therapy. Kathy believes many factors may influence one's well-being and has experience working with trauma, grief, life transitions, health, wellness, mental health and substance use. She works with adults, youth, couples, families and groups.
